The Construction Site Superintendent / Site Engineer at Infinite Rwanda is pivotal in ensuring project success through outstanding technical leadership, rigorous organization, precise schedule control, and meticulous budget management. This dynamic leader serves as the essential bridge between design intent and physical execution, overseeing daily operations, ensuring materials arrive precisely when needed, and maintaining adherence to project timelines.

Requirements

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily site operations, implementing short-interval production schedules to maximize efficiency.

  • Provide expert technical support and swiftly resolve design discrepancies via Requests for Information (RFIs) and field sketches.

  • Develop detailed look-ahead schedules and rigorously track actual progress against the baseline programme.

  • Track project schedule and ensure key milestones are met

  • Report delays or risks early and propose mitigation strategies

  • Coordinate and sequence trade work fronts effectively, proactively preventing operational clashes.

  • Conduct accurate material take-offs, schedule deliveries precisely, and manage just-in-time logistics to ensure zero delays (Schedule, track, and verify timely delivery of materials and equipment)

  • Oversee proper storage, handling, and use of materials on site

  • Generate comprehensive daily and weekly progress reports documenting quantities, labour hours, equipment usage, and photographic evidence.

  • Monitor and control costs against project budgets, promptly identifying variances and implementing corrective actions.

  • Perform rigorous quality assurance checks, including dimensional inspections, strict adherence to drawings and specifications, and oversight of Inspection and Test Plans (ITP).

  • Conduct regular workmanship inspections, driving first-time-right execution and reducing rework.

  • Lead Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) initiatives, including toolbox talks, risk assessments, and strict oversight of permit-to-work procedures.

  • Manage subcontractor interactions, conduct routine interface meetings, and facilitate seamless coordination across teams.

  • Rapidly escalate issues, apply strategic problem-solving, and collaborate effectively with design and Project Management (PM) teams.

  • Mentor junior engineers, fostering a collaborative environment and high morale within the site team.

  • Propose and implement continuous improvement strategies leveraging Lean construction principles, 5S methodologies, and productivity enhancement initiatives.

Typical Daily Tasks:

  • Conduct morning team briefings and task allocation

  • Review and approve task execution based on drawings

  • Track work progress against schedule and quality standards

  • Coordinate with delivery trucks and material suppliers

  • Inspect and approve completed works

  • Complete daily site diary and safety checks

  • Communicate updates to the project manager or the head office

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management.

  • Professional licensure as a Registered Engineer or Chartered Engineer preferred.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP), National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH), or Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certification is strongly recommended.

  • Minimum of 8 years of site-based construction experience, with at least 4 years in a supervisory or superintendent capacity on significant projects.

Core Competencies & Technical Skills

  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills, with proven ability to manage teams and complex operations.

  • Proficiency in project management software, including Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.

  • Expertise in Building Information Modeling (BIM) applications, AutoCAD, ArchiCAD, and related design software.

  • Strong Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) skills, including dimensional accuracy and specification compliance.

  • Advanced understanding of Lean Construction principles and 5S housekeeping methods.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) management systems.

  • Proficiency in digital construction site applications and productivity-tracking tools.

Reporting Line

  • Reports directly to the Project Manager or Construction Manager; directly supervises junior engineers, site foremen, subcontractors, and trade crews.

· Daily site diary and detailed progress logs

· Weekly Progress reports

· Weekly look-ahead schedules

· Request for Information (RFI) logs

· Weekly Material Request Form (MRF)

· Safety inspection checklists and records

Working Conditions / Location

This role is fully site-based, involving extensive outdoor work in varying environmental conditions. Proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) usage is mandatory at all times. Flexible working hours, including extended shifts, weekends, or emergency callouts, may be required based on project demands.
