Description

The Construction Site Foreman at Infinite Rwanda serves as the cornerstone of on-site operations, driving teamwork, productivity, and meticulous adherence to safety and quality standards. This pivotal leadership role involves coordinating diverse trade crews, efficiently scheduling workforce tasks, and tracking productivity to ensure that project milestones are consistently met or exceeded. The Foreman proactively maintains site cleanliness and organization, champions rigorous safety and security protocols, and ensures daily documentation is accurate and insightful.

Requirements

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate workforce scheduling and assignments to maximize daily productivity and resource utilization.

  • Provide clear instructions and ensure team understanding of daily objectives

  • Track task productivity meticulously, monitoring quantities, labour hours, and daily progress against established project plans.

  • Ensure work is completed to required quality standards and within planned timeframes

  • Identify inefficiencies or delays and propose corrective actions

  • Provide direct leadership and motivation to trade crews, ensuring high morale, teamwork, and effective communication.

  • Lead by example with a strong work ethic, fairness, and discipline

  • Build trust and respect among workers to encourage high performance

  • Address conflicts or underperformance constructively and report critical issues

  • Enforce strict site cleanliness and apply 5S housekeeping principles to maintain optimal organization and safety standards.

  • Oversee site safety and security, conducting regular toolbox talks, ensuring mandatory use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and managing site access control procedures.

  • Coordinate and manage materials and tools requisitions to ensure timely availability, minimizing downtime and waste.

  • Generate and maintain comprehensive daily reports covering site diary entries, labour allocations, equipment usage, and photographic documentation.

  • Conduct regular quality checks and enforce dimensional control measures to guarantee first-time-right task execution.

  • Monitor work zones for potential hazards and take corrective action

  • Identify and escalate site issues proactively, applying effective problem-solving techniques to resolve challenges swiftly and efficiently.

  • Manage and interface seamlessly with subcontractors, overseeing accurate and efficient work-front hand-offs.

  • Mentor apprentices and junior workers, providing skills transfer, professional development guidance, and reinforcing best practices.

  • Maintain a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement

  • Suggest and implement continuous improvement opportunities, communicating effectively with site management to optimize operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Typical Daily Duties

  • Attend morning briefings with project leadership

  • Allocate and explain daily work plans to site crews

  • Walk the site frequently to monitor task execution and address issues

  • Track labor productivity and adherence to timeframes

  • Motivate and ensure crews and all site staff have what they need to do the job right

  • Conduct safety checks and support toolbox talks

  • Complete daily site activity logs and communicate updates

  • Ensure cleanup of work areas and safe storage of tools/materials

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or equivalent qualification in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a relevant trade certification.

  • Minimum of 7 years of on-site construction experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role as Foreman.

  • Certified in Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS), NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC), or equivalent internationally recognized safety training.

  • Extensive experience managing construction workforce teams and practical knowledge of various trades.

Core Competencies & Technical Skills

  • Proven leadership abilities, fostering collaboration, and motivating diverse construction teams.

  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and delegate tasks effectively.

  • Expertise in Lean Construction and 5Shousekeeping methodologies to ensure streamlined site management.

  • Basic surveying and dimensional control knowledge to maintain high-quality standards.

  • Comprehensive understanding of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) protocols and compliance.

  • Proficiency in digital construction applications, including mobile site-management apps and reporting tools.

Reporting Line

  • Direct Reports:Construction workers, skilled trades, and site laborers

  • Reports To: Site Engineer or Project Manager

  • Works Closely With: Crews, Labourers, Subcontractors, Safety Officer, Storekeeper, Logistics Coordinator, and Site Admin

Primary Documents & Reports

  • Daily Foreman log

  • Workforce timesheets

  • Weekly look-ahead schedules

  • Site safety and cleanliness checklists

Working Conditions / Location


This role is based full-time on active construction sites, primarily outdoors, under varied weather conditions. Standard personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory at all times. Work schedules may include early morning, evening, weekend, or overtime shifts based on project requirements.
